“This is a picture that I treasure. Sonny was my dog for nine years, and he died recently, so I think this picture is a fitting tribute to my bequest for Dominican OLLI. This picture kind of unites life and death in my mind.” —Mick Chantler

Although Sonoma native Mick Chantler did not attend Dominican University, the 1971 graduate of Sonoma State University enjoyed a 50-year career in education and became involved with Dominican’s Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) program in 2012. “The program gave me a focus and a direction to shape my post-high school teaching career,” says Mick, who is retired but teaching with OLLI programs in the Bay Area.

Mick says he has thoroughly enjoyed his experiences at OLLI and has met many wonderful people at Dominican, including former Director Kathy Henderson and current Director Calum MacKechnie. To show his appreciation to Dominican OLLI for all the wonderful opportunities the program has given him, Mick has planned a legacy gift to the university in his will.

“I hope that the Dominican OLLI program goes on forever and continues to provide seniors with the learning opportunities that so many have enjoyed over the years,” he says. “I have seen firsthand what his program means to so many people. If my donation can be of some assistance in helping OLLI to thrive in the future, this bequest will be well worthwhile.”

Mick hopes others will be inspired to join him in leaving a legacy gift to support Dominican’s future. “If you are an OLLI student, I cannot imagine a better target for a portion of your estate,” he concludes. “The program brings connection, energy, and excitement to so many people that I believe you would feel proud to help keep OLLI solvent over the years.”
